Tabdrift: Tab Switcher & Search by Abdullah

Tabdrift is a fast, keyboard-first tab switcher and search box for Firefox. Press Alt+Shift+K and your tabs are listed, most recent first. Type a few letters and hit Enter to jump to a tab. Matching is fuzzy, so typos and out-of-order words still work, and it searches every window.

Not open? Tabdrift also searches your browsing history and lists close matches underneath, one row per site. Not in history either? Press Enter to search the web. One box for switching, reopening and searching.

SEARCH THE WEB
Use Tabdrift instead of the address bar. Open it, type or paste, press Enter. No Ctrl+T and Ctrl+L first.
- Put g, b or d before or after a search to use Google, Bing or DuckDuckGo: "g esp32 pinout" or "esp32 pinout d". That row goes to the top, so Enter runs it.
- Plain searches use your default engine, which you pick in settings.
- Searching for something like "vitamin d"? The full text with your default engine is one arrow press below the engine row.
- Your open tabs still come first. When a tab matches, it stays on top and the search sits under it.
- Enter opens results in a new tab, Shift+Enter in the tab you're on, and Ctrl+Enter in a background tab.

OPEN ADDRESSES
- Type github.com/you/repo, docs.rs, localhost:5173 or 192.168.1.1 and press Enter to open it.
- File names like README.md are left alone, so you can still search your tabs for them.

NEW TAB PAGE
Ctrl+T opens Tabdrift's own page instead of Firefox Home, with the cursor already in its search box. Type and press Enter: the same search as the overlay, for tabs, history, the web and addresses. Results load right in that tab.
- Shortcuts: the sites Firefox shows on its own new tab page, with your pinned sites first. Pin, edit, remove, or drag pinned sites to reorder them.
- Weather for a place you pick. Off until you turn it on.
- A to-do list that stays in sync across open tabs.
- A focus timer that keeps counting after you close the tab, with an optional notification when a session ends.
- Background: an animated grain gradient with seven presets and full control over shape, colors, grain and speed. Or your own picture, or a plain color.
- Everything is set from Customize at the top right of the page.
- Prefer Firefox Home? Pick it under Settings, Home, New tabs. The rest of Tabdrift keeps working.
- On pages Firefox locks for extensions, like about:addons and addons.mozilla.org, the same shortcut opens Tabdrift from the toolbar instead. If a page blocks extensions without warning (the built-in PDF viewer, for example), the button flashes "!" and the next press opens Tabdrift from the toolbar.
- Tip: pin Tabdrift to the toolbar so it opens right under its button.

HISTORY BY SITE
Dashboards and admin panels leave dozens of long links in your history. Tabdrift groups them into one row per site, with a page count.
- Enter opens the site's front page, so the site can log you in or send you back to where you were.
- Shift+Enter opens the last page you visited on that site.
- Right arrow lists the pages under a site, most recent first. Right arrow again on a page shows its copy options: clean link, site link, domain, root domain and Markdown link. Left arrow goes back.
- Turn this off with "Group history by site" in settings to list every page.

OPEN SEVERAL RESULTS AT ONCE
Need a handful of pages from one search?
- Press Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on Mac) on a result to open it in a background tab. Tabdrift stays open with your search and highlight where they were, so you can arrow down and open the next one. A count in the footer shows how many you have opened.
- It works on history rows, web searches, addresses and the open rows under Utilities. Add Shift to open a site's last page instead of its front page.
- Turn on "Keep overlay open after opening a link" in settings to swap the keys: Enter opens in the background and stays, Ctrl+Enter opens and closes.
- Switching to an open tab always closes the overlay.

CLEAN UP YOUR TABS
- Press Ctrl+D to close the highlighted tab. The overlay stays open and the highlight moves to the next tab, so you can close several in a row.
- Duplicates: when the same page is open more than once, a Clean up row keeps one copy of each page and closes the rest.
- Type a word or site name, then choose "Close all matching tabs". It asks for a second Enter first.
- Pinned tabs are never closed in bulk, and the tab you are on is never closed from its own overlay.
- Closed tabs are normal closed tabs. Ctrl+Shift+T (Cmd+Shift+T on Mac) brings them back.

EMAILS AND LINKS
- Paste an email and a Utilities section appears with the domain selected, so Enter copies it. You also get the root domain and the cleaned address. A list of emails gives you the unique domains, one per line.
- Paste a link and the top row opens it. Right below are the link without tracking parameters (utm_*, fbclid, gclid and similar), the site link with no path, its domain, a Markdown link and a Wayback Machine lookup.

COPY CLEAN LINKS FROM ANYWHERE
- Alt+Shift+C copies the current page's link without tracking parameters.
- Right-click any link and choose "Copy clean link".
- Turn on Quick copy in settings to copy the main result as soon as you paste.

CUSTOMIZE
Change the shortcut, overlay position, accent color and default search engine in the settings page. You can also turn off the tab list on open if you would rather start with a blank box, turn off history grouping, and choose whether the overlay stays open after you open a link.

PRIVACY
Tabdrift does not collect your data. Tab search, history search, tab closing and link cleaning all run locally in your browser. Web searches go straight from Firefox to the engine you picked, the same as searching from the address bar. Tabdrift doesn't see or store them.
The only request Tabdrift makes itself is for the optional weather on the new tab page: it sends the place you pick to Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com), and only after you agree in Firefox's data consent prompt.
