ZTint by Warewolf Technologies

ZTint gives every tagged message in Zimbra a soft wash of its tag's colour, so
you can pick out what matters while scanning the list instead of reading each
tag.

It works in both Zimbra clients — the modern client and the classic ZCS one —
and adapts to whichever one you are looking at.

WORKS WITH YOUR ZIMBRA, WHEREVER IT IS

Zimbra is self-hosted, so there is no single address ZTint could ship knowing.
It installs with no site access at all and asks for nothing up front. Open your
Zimbra client, open ZTint, and click "Use this site" — it checks the tab first
and tells you whether a Zimbra client is really there before you grant anything.

If you would rather not think about it, switch on "Find Zimbra on any site".
ZTint then recognises clients by itself and remembers each one it finds. On a
page with no Zimbra client it does nothing at all.

• Leave messages with several tags untinted, if mixed colours are distracting

TAG FROM THE KEYBOARD

Classic Zimbra has always had two tagging keys, T and U. The modern client
dropped them; ZTint brings them back. Point at a message and press T to open
Zimbra's Tag dialog for it, or U to remove its tags. Two more are new to both
clients: Y tags a message with your first tag, and each further press moves it
on to the next, while 1 to 9 give it your first nine tags, one each, on top of
the tags it has - press a tag's number again to take just that one off. In the
modern client they act on the message you point at, in the classic client on
the one you have selected, just as classic's own T and U work. With a tag
dialog open, in either client, the keys 1 to 9 pick tags there and Enter saves
them. All of it uses Zimbra's own Tag controls, exactly as the mouse would, and
stays out of the way while you type and of Zimbra's own shortcuts. The keys can
be switched off in the popup.

BUILT TO STAY OUT OF THE WAY

Tagged rows are tinted; everything else is left exactly as Zimbra drew it. The
selected row keeps Zimbra's own highlight so it stays unambiguous, and the tint
is mixed against the page background rather than a hard-coded white, so it stays
correct in dark mode.

PRIVACY

ZTint collects nothing and sends nothing anywhere. It makes no network requests
of any kind, has no analytics, no accounts and no advertising. Your settings and
your site list are stored locally in your own browser and never leave the
device — the extension does not even use browser sync.

It reads the message list to work out what colour each row should be and,
while its keys are on, watches for T, U, Y and the number keys while you point
at a message, for Y and the number keys while a message is selected in the
classic client, and for the number keys and Enter in an open tag dialog.
Nothing you type is recorded. It does not read message bodies, attachments, contacts, calendars or
credentials, and the only change it ever makes to mail is to a message's tags,
when you press one of its keys.
