Subtitles to Markdown for YT by Monserrat

Subtitles to Markdown for YouTube saves the subtitles of a video, a playlist or a whole channel as clean Markdown files on your own computer. Everything runs locally in Firefox: no servers, no accounts, no tracking.

What you get

• Videos: a .md file with the title, channel, date and duration, followed by the transcript grouped into readable paragraphs
• Playlists and channels: one file per video, collected in a folder named after the playlist or channel
• Smart track choice: manual subtitles first, auto-generated as a fallback, in your language or the video's own
• Any language: pick from the list or type any language code (ja, de, es...)
• Timestamps on or off
• Limit for long playlists, shown only when you paste a playlist or channel link
• Popup: open a video and click the toolbar button, the link is filled in for you

Privacy first

• Talks only to youtube.com, using your own signed-in session, so age-restricted videos work without exporting cookies
• Never reads, stores or sends cookies
• No servers, no analytics, no telemetry, no remote code
• Files are created in your browser and saved to your Downloads folder. Nothing is uploaded
• The only thing stored is your language, timestamp and limit settings, locally

How to use

1. Open YouTube (signed in if you need age-restricted videos)
2. Click the toolbar icon
3. Paste a video, playlist or channel link, or keep the one that was filled in
4. Choose language and timestamps, click "Save subtitles"
5. Find the result in Downloads

Handy details

• A job keeps running when the popup is closed, and can be stopped at any time
• Windows-safe file names; videos without subtitles are skipped and reported in the log
• For some videos YouTube only hands subtitles to its own player, so the add-on may briefly open a background youtube.com tab and closes it when the job is done
