Library Cleaner for ChatGPT is an unofficial bulk file-management tool for the ChatGPT Library.

The extension is shown only when the user opens the ChatGPT Library page:

After opening the Library, a red launcher button appears in the bottom-right corner of the page. The button opens the extension panel, where the user can count, filter, move, or permanently delete Library items.

The extension processes files in controlled batches and includes retry and backoff mechanisms for temporary ChatGPT backend errors. This makes large cleanup operations significantly faster and more reliable than deleting files individually through the standard ChatGPT interface.

Main features

Date-based filtering

Version 1.4.6 includes improved date filtering.

Users can select Period and define an exact start and end date.

Available date fields include:

• Creation date
• Upload date
• Last updated date
• Processing date
• Trash date for Recently deleted items

The selected date field is used directly. The extension does not silently replace a missing selected date with another unrelated date field.

Quick date presets include:

• Today
• Yesterday
• Last 7 days
• Last 30 days
• This month
• This year

Preset dates can still be manually adjusted before starting an operation.

File type filters

Files can be filtered by:

• Images
• Video
• Audio
• PDF
• Text
• Other

File type filters work with both Active files and Recently deleted files.

PDF detection uses available indicators including:

• application/pdf
• .pdf file extension
• ChatGPT Library file category when available

Improved reliability

The extension includes automatic retry handling for temporary ChatGPT backend errors.

Supported retry conditions include:

• 408 Request Timeout
• 425 Too Early
• 429 Too Many Requests
• 500 Internal Server Error
• 502 Bad Gateway
• 503 Service Unavailable
• 504 Gateway Timeout

Temporary backend problems therefore do not necessarily interrupt the entire cleanup operation.

Large Library operations are processed gradually to reduce unnecessary server load.

Improved bulk deletion

Moving active files to Trash uses controlled processing and retry logic.

Permanent deletion from Recently deleted also includes handling for temporary errors such as:

• Request timeout
• Request timed out
• Gateway timeout
• Upstream timeout
• file.deletion.error
• UnexpectedStatusCode

Files are processed carefully rather than sending a large burst of deletion requests at once.

Retry delays increase between failed attempts where appropriate.

Safer deletion confirmation

In some cases ChatGPT may successfully delete a file but fail to return a normal completion response before the request times out.

The extension includes additional handling for this situation.

If a deletion attempt times out and a later retry receives:

• 404 Not Found
• 410 Gone

the item may be treated as already deleted instead of being incorrectly reported as another deletion failure.

Safety warning

Deleting Library items can result in permanent data loss. Always verify the selected filters, date field, and date range before confirming a destructive operation.

Users should:

• Carefully check the selected file types.
• Check the selected date field.
• Check the selected date range.
• Review the requested operation before confirming.
• Create their own backup of important files before using bulk deletion features.

Use of the extension is at the user's own risk.

The developer cannot guarantee that ChatGPT's internal Library API, returned metadata, or deletion behaviour will remain unchanged.

The developer is not responsible for accidentally deleted files, incorrect file selection, permanent data loss, unavailable backups, changes made by ChatGPT, or other consequences resulting from use of the extension.

Users are responsible for creating and maintaining their own backups before performing destructive operations.

Privacy

The extension does not download ChatGPT Library files to the user's device.

It does not send account information, file information, authentication data, Library contents, or browsing activity to the developer or to any third-party server.

All Library operations are performed directly between the user's browser and chatgpt.com using the user's existing ChatGPT session.

The extension does not contain:

• Analytics
• Telemetry
• Advertising
• Tracking systems
• Developer-operated external servers
• Remotely downloaded executable code

Authentication information is used only when required to communicate with ChatGPT using the user's existing browser session.

Authentication information is not permanently stored by the extension.

The extension does not store:

• File names
• File identifiers
• Library contents
• Deletion history
• Account information
• Authentication tokens

The only persistent extension preference is the user's selected interface language: Polish or English.

Limited page access

The extension's Library launcher remains hidden outside the ChatGPT Library page.

It does not display the Library cleanup launcher on:

• Chat conversations
• ChatGPT settings
• Other unrelated ChatGPT pages
