gitchop version history - 12 versions
  • Be careful with old versions! These versions are displayed for testing and reference purposes. You should always use the latest version of an add-on.

  • Latest version

    Version 2.9.0

    Released Oct 2, 2026 - 129.95 KB
Works with firefox 140.0 and later
    • Pull requests are asked for on every open, so the list is always as it stands.
    • A pull request that is no longer yours to deal with is ticked off and swept from its lane before your eyes.
    • A rate limit gauge in the corner
    • Reduced motion keeps it all to a fade.

    Version 2.8.1

    Released Sep 29, 2026 - 120.76 KB
Works with firefox 140.0 and later
    • With the links panel off, the news and pull request columns now have a height of their own. They used to collapse to just their header.
    • Settings is reachable without the links panel: the column nearest where the panel would be ends in a strip with a settings word.

  • Version 2.8.0

    Released Sep 29, 2026 - 120.37 KB
Works with firefox 140.0 and later
    • The news column fills a repository at a time, and a refresh asked for while one runs waits and asks again.
    • The contributions count settles sooner.
    • Token rows name the owner a pending token was made for and say when each expires.
    • An exact owner/repository is the first row under Repositories, and the list holds ten.

  • Version 2.7.0

    Released Sep 28, 2026 - 117.96 KB
Works with firefox 140.0 and later
    • Backup now covers your settings as well as your links: news subscriptions and the edition hour, the switches under Panels and Pull requests, and the chop. Tokens still never leave the browser.
    • A gist made by an earlier version keeps working. Its links are read as before, and it is written back whole with your settings on the first push.
    • News can cover up to a week. A new Covers slider next to the edition hour sets how far back each edition reaches, from a day to seven, made up fresh each morning.
    • Changing the span makes up a new edition straight away, and it costs no extra requests to GitHub.

  • Version 2.6.0

    Released Sep 28, 2026 - 115.36 KB
Works with firefox 140.0 and later
    • Added "your contributions this year", in the head of the menu.
    • Settings is now paged.
    • Every panel has its own switch. The links panel, the pull requests column, the news column and the contributions count can each be turned off under Panels, so the menu can be only the columns you want.
    • Backup has a page of its own under GitHub, with its own status corner, instead of sharing the token card.

    WHAT'S NEW
    • News from the repositories you follow. Subscribe to a repository and a
third column appears beside the menu with what happened in it, told in a
few sentences: releases, commits and who made them, pull requests merged
and opened, issues opened and closed. The most newsworthy item comes
first, and a quiet line when nothing happened.
    • Every fact in the news is a chip. Hover it and the details unfold beneath
the sentence, each line a link: the pull requests behind the count, every
commit of the day with its message and author, the releases by name. Click
the chip to open GitHub's own list of exactly that.
    • News is a morning paper, not a feed. The edition is made up once a day at
the hour you choose (08:00 to begin with), covers everything since the
previous edition, up to a week, and stays put until the next one.
    • Subscribe from inside the menu. Press -> on any repository row and choose
Subscribe to news; the same row unsubscribes. Subscriptions sync with your
      profile, up to thirty repositories.
    • A News card in Settings: switch the column on or off, set the edition
hour, see every subscribed repository with its latest summary, add one by
name or pasted URL, unsubscribe, or refresh now.
    • Public repositories need no token. Private ones are read with a saved
      token that can see them.

    WHAT'S CHANGED
    • The lists scroll with the mouse again. The links, the pull requests and
the news all respond to the wheel; the page behind stays still.
    • The keyboard is unchanged. Tab, <- and -> move between the links and the
pull requests exactly as before; the news column is read with the mouse.
    • Three columns need about 1280 px of width. Below that the news column
steps aside first, and below 980 px the menu is as it was.
    • Every waiting pull request now carries a single mark instead of filled and
      hollow diamonds.
    • The strip under the panel shows the column hints as soon as the menu
opens, without waiting for the mouse to move.
    • In Settings, saved tokens are listed one per row instead of side by side.

  • Version 2.4.0

    Released Sep 12, 2026 - 78.12 KB
Works with firefox 140.0 and later
    • Pull-request column beside the menu. With a token saved, a second column rises next to the panel, splitting every open PR you're party to into three lanes: feedback on yours (approved / changes requested), waiting on you to review, and yours waiting on others. Every lane shows everything it holds — no "more" row, no bounce to GitHub.
    • Keyboard flow stays unbroken. Search keeps focus; <kbd>→</kbd> (on non-repo rows) or <kbd>Tab</kbd> (anywhere) crosses into the column, <kbd>↑</kbd>/<kbd>↓</kbd> walk lanes, <kbd>↵</kbd> opens, <kbd>←</kbd> comes back, and typing any character drops you straight back into search with that character.
    • Paints instantly from the last snapshot, refreshing behind it; skeletons hold each lane's place and the column matches the panel's height, so nothing resizes as results land.
    • Toolbar badge shows the number waiting on you, refreshed every five minutes on an alarm. The red ! for a missing site grant still takes priority.
    • New Pull requests card in Settings: switches for the column, the badge and whether drafts count; the three counts with fetch time; a Refresh now button; and a note on fine-grained token scopes.
    • Reworked hint strip. Shows real keys (<kbd>enter</kbd> open, <kbd>→</kbd> pull requests, <kbd>esc</kbd> close), context-aware from wherever the cursor is. The panel head now reads Links, and the repeated repo name is gone.
    • Under the hood: one GraphQL request carries both searches (REST can't distinguish reviewed from unreviewed PRs); alarms joins the permissions; privacy notes updated for the new GitHub calls.

Chop effect settings — Turn the animation off, pick one of eighteen colours, set how epic it gets, and change its speed.
Preview chop — Plays your settings on the settings page itself, so you can tune the effect without going back to GitHub.
Rebuilt animation — The dark now spills out of the cut, its edges glow apart, and the menu rises into the opening.
No more full-screen flash — At higher epicness the light bursts from the cut itself instead.
Fix: Pressing . keeps working even if the extension cannot read its settings.

  • Version 2.1.0

    Released Aug 28, 2026 - 55.8 KB
Works with firefox 115.0 and later
    • manifest.json: "name" is now "gitchop for GitHub"; version 2.1.0. Permissions,
host permissions, content scripts and the gecko data_collection_permissions block
    are byte-for-byte unchanged.
    • browser_specific_settings.gecko.id is unchanged (gitchop@itk-dev), so this is an
update to the existing listing rather than a new add-on.
    • src/background.js and src/options/access.js: a code comment and one user-facing
paragraph reworded to stop naming Firefox specifically. No behaviour change.
    • Everything else in the diff is repository furniture — a build script, CI
workflows, README and release documentation — none of which is included in the
    package.

  • Version 2.0.0

    Released Aug 18, 2026 - 55.77 KB
Works with firefox 115.0 and later
    Since 1.0.0

    Finding repositories
    - Private repositories are now findable. GitHub's search will not return them, so gitchop
builds its own list of the repositories your token can reach and matches that locally —
instantly, with no request per keystroke.
    - Any number of tokens can be saved, so several organisations are covered.
    - Press the right arrow on a repository to go straight to its pull requests or issues.

    The menu
    - The panel is a fixed size and no longer resizes while you type.
    - The list settles briefly after your last keystroke, so a typed word is one visual change
    rather than one per letter.
    - The cut runs right to left, and faster.
    - "Add this page" and "Settings" are rows in the list, reachable by typing, instead of buttons.
    - The right-hand column is a single arrow instead of a truncated URL.

    Tokens and privacy
    - Tokens are stored obfuscated rather than as readable text, and never in synced storage.
    - The settings page shows what each token actually grants, and flags one that can write.
    - A token is no longer tied to gist backup; either can be used without the other.

    Fixes
    - The toolbar icon now flags it when Firefox has not granted access to github.com — without
that grant the extension is silently inert.
    - Links from the gist are validated before being stored or made clickable
