Dark Mode for Every Website – NeoReader by NeoReader
NeoReader Dark Mode is published by NeoReader, operator of neoreader.com.
What the extension does with your data
• No access to websites until you choose. At install the extension can't see or change any website. Clicking its button or pressing its shortcut darkens only the tab you're on (the activeTab permission).
• Per-site access, only when you ask. Switching a site on asks your browser for access to that one site, so it can be dark before the page appears. "Dark everywhere" asks for access to all websites, and only when you turn it on. Switching a site off gives the access back.
• It works with the page's styles, not its content. To recolour a page it reads the page's style sheets (colours, backgrounds, borders), writes dark versions into the page, and checks the background colour to leave already-dark sites alone. Nothing about the page is stored or sent to us.
• Style sheets and background images may be downloaded again. When a page's style sheet or background image comes from another server, the extension may fetch that same file again to recolour it. These requests go only to servers the page itself uses, carry no cookies or login details, are limited to CSS and image files, and only happen on sites you have allowed.
• Your settings (look, schedule, your list of sites, and a list of sites already seen to be dark) are kept in the extension's local storage on this device.
Data we collect
None. The extension sends nothing to us, loads no remote code and contains no analytics.
Open-source software
The colour engine is Dark Reader (MIT License), bundled with the extension together with its per-site fixes. Nothing is loaded from Dark Reader's servers. Full notices ship in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt.
