About this extension
It finds every contrast failure on the page — and writes up what's wrong with each one.
Checking one colour pair takes seconds. Producing the deliverable is what eats the afternoon:
looking up the criterion each failure breaches, explaining it in plain English, and finding a
passing colour that still looks like the brand. ContrastForge does the scan and drafts the
document.
GETS THE HARD COLOURS RIGHT
• Semi-transparent text or backgrounds — alpha composited up the whole ancestor chain, so rgba()
overlays report the colour a person actually sees
• Stacked translucent layers composited in order, not guessed
• Correct large-text classification (24px, or 18.66px at weight 700+), so you are not told to fix
text that already passes
• Gradient backgrounds tested at their worst colour stop — the point where text is least legible
• Elements over background images are reported as unchecked rather than estimated, because their
real pixels cannot be known from CSS
CHECK ANY PAIR, FREE
• Hex, RGB or HSL, all parsed; eyedropper picks any colour on the page
• Live ratio with four verdicts at once: AA normal, AA large, AAA normal, AAA large
• When a pair fails, one click applies the nearest passing colour that keeps the hue — so the fix
survives the brand conversation
SCAN THE PAGE AND EXPORT THE REPORT (PRO)
• Full-page scan: every visible text element, with its true composited background — five a month
on the free tier, unlimited with Pro
• Click a result to scroll to that element and outline it
• Export a paginated PDF with the URL, date, summary counts, swatches, measured vs required ratios
and a verified passing colour for each finding — or a CSV for your issue tracker
• Reports carry your own logo and business name, so they go to a client unedited
• Each finding cites the WCAG 2.2 criterion it breaches (1.4.3, 1.4.11)
• Saved palettes, and scan history kept locally
WHAT THIS IS NOT
ContrastForge checks colour contrast. It is not a full accessibility audit: it does not test
keyboard navigation, focus order, heading structure, alt text or ARIA, and it will not tell you a
site is compliant. axe and WAVE are free, cover far more of WCAG, and are worth running alongside
this. ContrastForge exists because none of them turn what they find into a document you can hand to
a client.
PRIVACY IS THE PRODUCT
• 100% local: every scan runs in your browser, on the tab you are looking at
• Access to the active tab only, at the moment you click — no standing access to other sites
• No analytics, no tracking, no ads, no remote code, no account
• This add-on collects no data, and says so in Firefox's own install prompt
• Full policy: https://sapirsoftware.github.io/contrastforge-privacy.html
IN SEVEN LANGUAGES
English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), German, French, Japanese and Simplified Chinese.
FREE vs PRO
Free: the two-colour checker, the eyedropper, all four WCAG 2.2 verdicts, accessible-colour
suggestions — and five full-page scans every month, with click-to-highlight. Forever, and all of it
local.
Pro ($149/year): unlimited scans, exportable PDF and CSV reports carrying your own
logo, saved palettes and scan history — for people who are paid to produce accessibility findings.
ContrastForge is built by Sapir Software — small tools, done right, with nothing to hide.
