Chronicle Companion does not operate, connect to, or maintain any cloud servers, remote databases, or third-party analytics services. All activity data communicates exclusively with your local Chronicle desktop application running on your own computer. Your browsing data never leaves your personal device.


When browsing in normal browser windows, the extension detects:
* Website Domain & URL: The domain name and path of the currently focused tab so Chronicle can record time in your local timeline.
* Page & Tab Title: The title of the active tab to identify active media (e.g., YouTube videos, documents, or articles).
* Sanitized URL Parameters: Common marketing tracking tags (such as utm_*, fbclid, gclid, msclkid) are automatically stripped before logging.

• NO Keystrokes or Inputs: We do not log form entries, keystrokes, or search inputs.
• NO Page Scraping: We do not read web page body contents, personal messages, or emails.
• NO Credentials: Passwords, authentication tokens, cookies, and financial data are never accessed.
• NO Third-Party Telemetry: Zero external trackers, advertising networks, or analytics SDKs are embedded.

• tabs: Detects the URL and title of the active tab in the currently focused window.
• storage: Stores local connection state and error diagnostics in local browser storage.
• alarms: Schedules a low-frequency keepalive alarm to keep passive media (e.g., videos, podcasts) updated in Chronicle without draining battery.
• Local host communication: Allows sending local loopback signals directly to the Chronicle desktop application on your PC.

• The extension is disabled by default in Private Browsing / Incognito windows.
• Private tabs are ignored and never tracked unless the user explicitly grants private browsing access in browser extension settings.

• All data resides strictly in your local database on your device.
• You can review, search, or permanently delete any tracked domains or pages at any time directly in Chronicle's Domains tab.
• Uninstalling the extension immediately stops all tracking.
