YouTube Shorts Autoscroll by Naka

Autoscrolls YouTube Shorts when the video finishes. One toggle. No telemetry. Go watch your videos.


I use YouTube Shorts for background noise. There is no autoplay, so I kept
hearing the same Short loop over and over. I got tired of it and wrote this.

It moves to the next Short when the current one ends. That's it.

• One switch in the toolbar popup. On or off.
• Works in background tabs. Put it in another tab and let it run.
• Runs on youtube.com. Nothing else.
• No accounts, no settings page, no analytics, no tracking.
• Only permission is local storage, to remember the switch.

storage: stores one boolean, whether the switch is on.

Content script on *://www.youtube.com/* and *://m.youtube.com/*: listens to
the Shorts video element for the end of the clip. In a visible tab it clicks
YouTube's own "Next video" button. In a hidden tab, where the browser stops
rendering and that button does nothing, it navigates the tab to the next
Short's URL using the reel sequence YouTube already embedded in the page. If
that list is exhausted it re-reads the current page HTML from youtube.com to
get the next ids. No data leaves youtube.com.
